bullet  General Notes:

Marilee Stephenson: I have recently reviewed notes from my grand uncle and a grand aunt (Nancy's grandchildren) who were relying mainly on information from Nancy's husband and Nancy's eldest daughter concerning Nancy's relationship with other members of the McCormack family. Apparently John Samuel and Henry were closer to her than any other siblings or cousins. Additionally, I need to establish that Gordon either came back or was in Kentucky shortly after Frances' death and took Nancy into his household. According to my Grandmother and my grand uncle Nancy lived with Gordon after she was "orphaned". According to my granduncle, Nancy tried to correspond with other members of her "real" family, but her letters were never answered. From what I have heard of Floyd and his second wife, I would suspect that they were the McCormacks that would not respond to Nancy.

As for your observation on Nancy, her date of birth was January 5,1866. The 1870 Nancy living with Gordon does not exactly fit. It was my belief that she was living with Frances in 1870, but that Nancy's age does not fit either.I surmised that the censustaker had confused the ages of Frances' three young daughters, Annie, Nancy, and Suvenia/Luvenia. According to the 1870, the age is exactly right for my Nancy. This is a stretch, but Gordon and Martha may also have had a daughter Nancy who died as a child. One reason for this was a conversation with my Grandmother revealing that her mother had been named after the woman who helped raise Nancy. (Martha Jane) The following is an entry in the Bible of my Great Grandmother (Martha Jane Alexander Wheeler, daughter of Nancy McCormack Alexander):

The following is an entry in the Bible of my Great Grandmother (Martha Jane Alexander Wheeler, daughter of Nancy McCormack Alexander):

Deaths: Nancy Alexander, born January 5th 1866. Departed this world on December 9th 1820. Was the dau. of F. McCormack. Some other Alexander and Wheeler entries, then this notation on Nancy's husband: James Russell Alexander, born August 16th 1852. Departed this world on July 2nd 1935.82 years 10 months 14 days. Son of Wm. and Sarah Jane [Prince] Alexander.

My question : Did F. refer to Floyd or Frances? For some time, I had thought that Nancy was the illegitimate child of Frances since I found Frances alone with the children in the 1870 Census. On the other hand, maybe Floyd deserved an "F". Marilee
